Amazing Abandoned Hot Springs

An Abandoned Hot Springs lies near the corner of the Extraterrestrial Highway and Nowhere in the middle of Nevada.  Technically it's private property and going to the hot springs is trespassing, but the owners don't seem to mind.  Either that or they got tired of people breaking into the Warm Springs Resort.

abandoned Nevada hot springs

As full-time Rv'ers, travelers, adventurers we are always looking for something new to enjoy.  We are prolific lovers of Hot Springs and have traveled all over to find them.  This particular abandoned hot springs in Warm Springs, Nevada was about an hour and a half out of our way but well worth the trip.  This was probably my favorite hot springs we have visited so far while traveling in the RV.

This is the Warm Springs Resort.  It was abandoned quite some time ago. While I can't find any particulars on it, I think that the owners probably just gave up on trying to keep people out.  When you arrive you'll notice right away that the fence has been broken into many times.

I hear that people camp at the warm springs hot springs, but we didn't.  The ground was pretty uneven and you'd have to actually drive into their gated area or sleep on the side of the road.  This is a heavily trafficked road by semi-drivers.  I didn't want to get accidentally hit in the middle of the night.  Carolyn from Carolyn's RV life did camp over night here.  You can read about her experience here.

Warm Springs Resort

Warm Springs Nevada is a place you really need to see to understand it's beauty.  The beautiful blue warm waters are refreshing.  A soak in the abandoned hot springs is the perfect remedy to a long day.  Check out our video on our visit to Warm Springs Hot Springs.

Getting to Warm Springs Nevada

At the end of the Extraterrestrial Highway, you'll find these abandoned hot springs.  Drive 50 miles east of Tonopah on US 6 until you reach the intersection with the Extraterrestrial Highway.  There's pretty ample parking on the street.  You'll walk into the No Trespassing area.  There you will find a changing room and the most luxurious Nevada hot spring I've ever seen.

Wikipedia says that Warm Springs Nevada was mostly a stage coach town and dwindled out of favor.  I suspect that like most Nevada towns, Warm Springs Resort didn't make it past the boom of gold and silver mining.  Sadly, much of the state has incredible ghost towns or small towns with old west architecture that have just been left to ruin.  I wish us Nevadans would be more like Colorado in the preservation of our Wild West Heritage.  For now, we'll just have to settle for ample gambling and prostitution.

Hot Springs Disclaimer

This is important.  I wasn't sure I wanted to write this article because I don't trust people.  Living on the road I've seen a lot of disrespectful campers.  When visiting Warm Springs Resort be respectful.  There is no trash pick up.  Clean up your trash and bring an extra trash bag to clean up other people's trash.  Officially you are trespassing on land that someone is turning a blind eye to you being there.  Be aware of that.  We wouldn't want the owners to take out the pool entirely.  I've seen that done in other Nevada hot springs that we can no longer visit because visitors were not respectful.  Don't get drunk and hurt yourself on someone's land.  That will ruin it for us all.
